Spiced Cranberry Orange Mocktail
The Winter Fox: A Spiced Cranberry Orange Mocktail Made With Klarity Orange
By Tavo | Klarity | 1 serving | Under 5 minutes
Most festive drinks are doing a lot of work with sugar. Cranberry juice cocktail — which is mostly sugar with some cranberry in the vicinity. Flavoured syrups. Ginger beer loaded with sweetener. You end up with something that looks good in a glass and leaves you wondering why you feel slightly worse than before you drank it.
The Winter Fox takes the same visual brief — deep cranberry red, citrus orange, spiced and garnished and genuinely impressive on a table — and rebuilds it around ingredients that make sense.
Klarity Orange as the base. Unsweetened cranberry juice for tartness and colour. Fresh lemon for brightness. Ground cinnamon and nutmeg for the warmth that makes a winter drink feel like a winter drink. Sparkling water to carry it all.
Zero added sugar. Everything that makes a good festive drink, none of what usually comes with it.
Why This Mocktail Works
Klarity Orange provides the electrolyte foundation — sodium, potassium, magnesium glycinate, chloride, calcium, and phosphorus — alongside a full B complex and Vitamin C. It's the base that makes this more than juice and sparkling water.
Unsweetened cranberry juice is intentional here. Sweetened cranberry juice or cranberry cocktail blends contain significant added sugar that works against the point of using Klarity. Unsweetened cranberry juice is tart, concentrated, and high in antioxidants — a small amount goes a long way in both flavour and colour.
Fresh lemon juice adds Vitamin C and the acidity that lifts the whole drink. It's the difference between something that tastes flat and something that tastes considered.
Cinnamon and nutmeg aren't decorative. Ground cinnamon has documented anti-inflammatory properties, and both spices add genuine warmth to the flavour profile rather than just looking seasonal.
The garnish — orange peel twist and cranberry-rosemary sprig — takes about ninety seconds and changes how the drink reads entirely. Worth doing.
Ingredients
(Serves 1)
- 1 sachet Klarity Orange
- 355ml sparkling water
- 30ml unsweetened cranberry juice
- 7ml fresh lemon juice (approximately ¼oz or a short squeeze)
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 3 fresh cranberries and 1 small rosemary sprig, to garnish
- 1 orange peel twist, to garnish
- Ice
Directions
Step 1: Dissolve Klarity. Add 1 sachet of Klarity Orange to your glass. Pour in the cranberry juice and lemon juice and stir to combine with the powder before adding anything fizzy.
Step 2: Add sparkling water and ice. Add ice, then pour in 355ml of sparkling water. Stir gently — just enough to integrate without losing carbonation.
Step 3: Add the spices. Add a pinch each of ground cinnamon and nutmeg directly to the glass. Stir once more to distribute.
Step 4: Prepare the garnish. Express an orange peel twist over the drink by bending the peel skin-side down to release the oils, then run it around the rim. Thread 3 fresh cranberries onto a small rosemary sprig.
Step 5: Garnish and serve. Place the rosemary-cranberry sprig and the orange peel twist on or in the glass. Serve immediately.
Tips & Notes
Unsweetened cranberry juice, not cocktail blend. This is the most important ingredient call in the recipe. Sweetened cranberry juice or cranberry cocktail blends typically contain 20–25g of added sugar per serving. Unsweetened cranberry juice is significantly more tart and concentrated — 30ml is the right amount here, not a full pour. Check the label before you buy.
On the spices. A pinch of each is genuinely small — less than ¼ teaspoon. Cinnamon in particular gets assertive quickly. Start with less than you think you need and adjust. If you've overshot it, a little extra lemon juice pulls it back.
The orange peel technique. Hold the peel skin-side down between your thumb and forefinger over the glass and snap it firmly. You should see a fine mist of oil hit the surface of the drink. This adds citrus aroma to the first sip in a way that changes the experience noticeably. It takes ten seconds and is worth the ten seconds.
Batch for a table. Multiply everything by however many you're serving, mix in a jug without ice, and pour over ice per glass as you serve. Add the garnish per glass — it reads much better individually than as a jug decoration.
Fresh rosemary over dried. Dried rosemary doesn't thread onto a skewer cleanly and the visual doesn't hold up. If you can't get fresh rosemary, a simple cranberry-on-a-toothpick works fine.
Variations
Add ginger. A small piece of fresh ginger muddled in the glass before building the drink adds a sharp warmth that sits well alongside the cinnamon and nutmeg. About 1cm of fresh ginger, pressed firmly with a spoon before adding the liquid.
Make it a warm drink. Replace the sparkling water with hot water for a spiced winter warmer. Skip the ice and increase the cinnamon and nutmeg slightly. The Klarity dissolves well in hot water and the spice notes come through more strongly in a warm format.
Add pomegranate. Replace half the cranberry juice with unsweetened pomegranate juice for a deeper, slightly sweeter version with more body. The colour becomes richer and the flavour less sharp.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this holiday mocktail actually sugar-free?
Klarity Orange contains zero added sugar. The natural sugar in this recipe comes from the 30ml of unsweetened cranberry juice and the small amount of fresh lemon juice — both whole-food sources without added sweeteners. There are no syrups, no sweetened mixers, and no added sugar anywhere in this recipe. Total natural sugar per serving is approximately 2–3g.
Where do I find unsweetened cranberry juice?
Most health food stores carry it, and it's increasingly available in larger supermarkets. Look for labels that say "100% cranberry juice" or "unsweetened" with no juice blends listed in the ingredients. Brands that label themselves as "cranberry cocktail" or "cranberry drink" are sweetened — avoid these for this recipe.
Can I make The Winter Fox without fresh cranberries for the garnish?
Yes. The garnish is visual rather than functional — the drink tastes the same without it. A simple orange slice or even just the orange peel twist works well. If you're making this for a table setting and want impact, the cranberry-rosemary sprig is worth sourcing. If you're making it for yourself on a Tuesday, skip it.
Can I use a different Klarity flavour?
This recipe is developed specifically for Klarity Orange. The orange flavour is integral to the citrus profile alongside the cranberry and lemon — it's not a background note. A different Klarity flavour will change the drink significantly and may not work as well with the spiced cranberry combination.
When is a good time to serve this?
The Winter Fox works as a festive table drink for Christmas, New Year, or any winter occasion. It also works as an everyday winter mocktail — the spiced format makes it feel appropriate for cold months in a way that a citrus-forward summer drink doesn't. Make it for yourself when you want something that feels celebratory without being a big production.
Zero sugar. No junk. Feel by design, not by default.
